FAQ SooBluu - Process and sustainability

We receive many questions about SooBluu regarding the production process and the level of environmental friendliness. We have carefully selected our materials with great care. Therefore, we currently work with the REPREVE certificate, which guarantees the careful use of energy, water, and chemicals. To this point, in our view, the choice of Repreve materials/recycled plastic is a better alternative than traditional polyester and even cotton. We strive to minimize our environmental impact as much as possible and continue to look for ways to make our products even more sustainable.

Here, we address these questions. If your question is not listed here, let us know:

How environmentally friendly is the production process?

At SooBluu, we are proud of our environmentally friendly production process for our travel towels. We use REPREVE®-certified materials, which are made from recycled plastic bottles. By collecting discarded PET bottles along the coasts of Asia, we help prevent much less plastic from entering the oceans via rivers. Additionally, the REPREVE certificate ensures that our production process complies with strict environmental standards and minimizes the use of harmful chemicals. Also, much less water is used compared to traditional polyester and cotton. In this respect, our material is also more environmentally friendly. Additionally, we do not use plastic to package our products.

Do microplastics release when washing?

Regarding concerns about microplastics, our towels are woven very smoothly without many loose fibers. This means the chance of microplastics being released during use is minimal. We recommend using a special washing bag to minimize the release of microplastics. You can use this not only for our towels but also when washing other textiles that contain traditional polyester. Many people don't realize that a lot of clothing (such as swimwear) and even dishcloths contain these microplastics. There is still much to improve in this area, and we are aware of that, working hard on solutions.

Can the materials of the SooBluu products be reused?

Currently, there is no specific solution for recycling our products. This issue applies to many textile products. However, the high quality of our towels ensures they last a long time, helping to reduce the need for replacement and thus minimizing total waste production. Although we do not yet have recycling or reuse options for our towels, we are continuously working on sustainable solutions and innovations. There are certainly new and promising developments in this area. We encourage our customers to use the towels for as long as possible and take good care of them to maximize their lifespan.
